Pianist from Japan, Tamaki Futagami peruses her musical path as a composer, arranger, and producer. Exposed to diverse culture, her music takes inspirations from mixed styles, which includes classical, jazz, South American and film scoring music. As a pianist, she has performed a wide repertoire of classical solo and ensemble pieces along with jazz ensembles that are both small and large.
Her passion for writing music accelerated when she moved to Boston, MA in the United States to attend Berklee College of Music for her Professional Diploma in Contemporary Writing and Production. Having years of classical background, which led her to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Music Liberal Arts with a concentration in Piano Performance at Tokyo College of Music in Japan in 2022, encountering the diverse genres of music in the city where different cultures interact has widened her approach to both playing and writing. In her compositions, she combines melodic writing inspired from traditional classical sound and harmonic and rhythmic elements from contemporary jazz and other instrumental styles.
Recently she has been expanding her compositional and production interest as a media composer. Working with Droid Mafia, an electronic record label and music production house led by Danny McIntyre, led her to pursue in electronic writing. Now her experiences in composing cues for visual media such as commercials and TV shows have become a significant element that enable her to incorporate contemporary writing techniques into instrumental compositions.
